Wrongfully Murdered: ICE’s Latest Victims

  • Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo was at least the 37th person to be killed by ICE in 2026, and the second person to die at the for-profit Delaney Hall ICE camp in New Jersey where he was deprived of his diabetes medication. DHS has not provided any details of his cause of death. Edwin lived in America for 20 years and leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter.
  • Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz and Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz were found bound and fatally shot in a sugarcane field in Guatemala with their 1-year-old daughter alive beside them. After Nixon was deported from the U.S. by ICE, Glendy took on two jobs working in a factory during the day and cleaning offices at night. With the difficulty to make ends meet – and pressure from ICE – Marisol self-deported with their three daughters to be with Nixon. The couple was found murdered just weeks after their family was reunited.
  • As of June 2026, ICE ended its policy requiring the reporting of deaths of former detainees that occur within 30 days of their release from custody. This means that ICE is not being held accountable for:
    • The deaths of people who become severely ill as a result of medical neglect while in ICE custody, but are released before they die (Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo, unidentified woman who was denied her kidney dialysis while in ICE custody and died once she was deported to Peru).
    • The deaths of people who are deported back to countries where the fled violence in the first place (Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz, Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz, four unidentified Haitian women found decapitated after being deported to Haiti).
    • The deaths of people with disabilities who are released from ICE custody without the necessary support (Daphy Michele, Nurul Alam).

Court Documents Confirm U.S. Govt. is Torturing Hunger Strikers

ICE is using involuntary medical procedures to force feed individuals who are striking against the abuses they face in ICE camps. In six cases reviewed by the Guardian, these individuals did not have any legal representation during the emergency court proceedings that ordered the torture. How does it work? ICE camp guards restrain the hunger striker while medical staff insert a tube through the nose and down the throat, and pump nutritional liquids into their bodies. One man endured this torture for nearly 6 months.

Modern Day Slave Shackling

After the Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status for Haitian and Syrian immigrants, Haitian immigrants who go to their ICE appointments have started coming out with ankle monitors. The alternative? $2600 and self deportation.

Bounty Hunting for Children

DHS has contracted 18 companies that are being paid hundreds of millions of dollars based on how many children they turn over to ICE. They claim these companies will be coordinating welfare checks, with each company being required to visit a minimum of 1,000 homes–despite there being no part of DHS that has ever dealt with child welfare. In fact, 12 of the 18 contracted companies have no experience with child welfare whatsoever. One of the companies advertises locksmith services and fugitive recovery. Immigrant rights groups clarify that the true purpose is to identify people for deportation and to do collateral arrest (when ICE targets one person but arrests anyone else that they come into contact with during the targeted arrest). The contracted companies can make up to hundreds of millions in contract dollars based on how many children they turn over.
